This project was initiated by Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of India to prepare district wise wasteland atlas for entire country using Remote Sensing and GIS and also to accomplish the wasteland management programme by inclusion of comprehensive information about the distribution of wastelands, mapped and classified at an appropriate scale of 1:50,000 with sufficient details to allow management actions to be implemented, or for further mapping and inventory work to be undertaken.
